Where does it hurt most for you, Blazer fans?
I’m as distraught as the next Blazer fan in regards to the way the first quarter of the Blazers’ season has transpired. However, we have as many losses as Spurs (the preseason pick to finish number 2 in the West). Do you think Pap and the San Antonio faithful are already thinking “there’s always next year”? I don’t need to answer that, nor do I need to list any more team records, trends, or stats to convince ourselves that maybe we can make the playoffs. In my mind, making the playoffs is still a no-brianer just as it was before Greg, Rudy, Travis, and Nic were watching from behind the bench in suits. Why? The answer is simple:
There is a reason we gave these two boys men max and near-max contracts for the next 5 years (and it wasn’t to lean on a 2nd year Center to get wins). These two will lead us to just as many wins as last year. There are definitely still questions in the second unit off the bench, but adjustments will be made and the 2 cornerstones of the Blazers franchise will do what is necessary (play more minutes, be more selfish, etc.) no matter what supporting cast is out on the floor with them. The media will write the Blazers off this season (because let’s face it, writing that the Blazers are still a good team is not a good read for the casual basketball fan), but the Blazer fans should not.
